Don't Dead Mac OS

'Don't Steal Mac OS X.kext, sometimes referred to as DSMOS or DSMOSX, is a file present in Intel-capable versions of the Mac OS X operating system which enforces a form of Digital Rights Management, preventing Mac OS X being installed on stock PCs. There are a number of ways this can happen. One common cause is a dead or dying battery in those Macs that use PRAM, which is a small-button style battery in the Mac. Another cause is your Mac freezing or temporarily losing power in the middle of a software update.

  1. Don't count on that saving 'true' Mac gaming. Then switch back to OS X right where you left off. Mac gaming is dead. Long live gaming on a Mac.
  2. Well I decided to give it the ol' 'Try # 378' - rebooting into OS 9. I have long since 86'd OS 9 on my iBook so I had to pull out an old OS 9 boot cd. The process said to reset the nvram (as explained in this article) then reboot to OS 9 and cycle the battery. So I reset the nvram, then booted off OS 9 CD and pulled the plug.

macOS offers a number of drive encryption options. With a Mac with a T2 chip built in, the startup volume is always encrypted. On other Macs, enabling FileVault encrypts that volume. (On all Macs, FileVault provides additional protection for a powered-down Mac, too.) You can also select a drive in the Finder, Control-click it, and choose Encrypt “drive name”, setting a password of your choosing.

If you forget that password or were given or purchase a drive that’s encrypted, you might think you’re at a dead end. However, it’s not dire—so long as you don’t need the data on the drive. If you merely want to erase it, Disk Utility will oblige:

  1. Launch Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.

  2. Select the volume or drive in the sidebar. (See sidebar notes below.)

  3. Click Erase.

  4. Choose the format, if you need to change it, and click Erase, and follow prompts.

The newly formatted drive is available for use and has no password attached.

On the matter of the sidebar: If you don’t see the sidebar in Disk Utility, choose View > Show Sidebar. The sidebar also shows only logical volumes by default, or the segments of a drive that mount in the Finder as unique items. To show containers and drives, choose View > Show All Devices. This can make it easier to ensure you’re erasing the correct volume.

Don

The gameplay is best described as an elaborate game of Hide and Seek- the Survivors must work together to hide from the Killer, who relentlessly pursues them through a randomly generated map. The Survivors can escape through powering up generators and escaping either by themselves or as a group, while the Killer attempts to stop them. What makes the game complicated is the Perk system, which can radically change how each of the Survivors is played.

There are also skill checks involved as each Survivor and Killer have different stats, meaning they’ll be good at some things and bad at others. In addition, each of the Survivors and the Killers have their own set of abilities and playstyles, which can make the gameplay unpredictable.
