LibriVox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain, and then we release the audio files back onto the net. We are a totally volunteer, open source, free content, public domain project.

LibriVox volunteers narrate, proof listen, and upload chapters of books and other textual works in the public domain. These projects are then made available on the Internet for everyone to enjoy, for free.

There are many, many things you can do to help, so please feel free to jump into the Forum and ask what you can do to help!

Where to Start

Most of what you need to know about LibriVox can be found on the LibriVox Forum and the FAQ. LibriVox volunteers are helpful and friendly, and if you post a question anywhere on the forum you are likely to get an answer from someone, somewhere within an hour or so. So don't be shy! Many of our volunteers have never recorded anything before LibriVox.

Types of Projects

We have three main types of projects:

• Collaborative projects: Many volunteers contribute by reading individual chapters of a longer text.

We recommend contributing to collaborative projects before venturing out to solo projects.

• Dramatic Readings and Plays: contributors voice the individual characters. When complete, the editor compiles them into a single recording
• Solo projects: One experienced volunteer contributes all chapters of the project.

Proof Listener (PL)

Not all volunteers read for LibriVox. If you would prefer not to lend your voice to LibriVox, you could lend us your ears. Proof listeners catch mistakes we may have missed during the initial recording and editing process.

Reader (Narrator)

Readers record themselves reading a section of a book, edit the recording, and upload it to the LibriVox Management Tool.

One Minute Test

We require new readers to submit a sample recording so that we can make sure that your set up works and that you understand how to export files meeting our technical standards. We do not want you to waste previous hours reading whole chapters only to discover that your recording is unusable due to a preventable technical glitch.

Book Coordinator (BC)

A book coordinator (commonly abbreviated BC in the forum) is a volunteer who manages all the other volunteers who will record chapters for a LibriVox recording.

Metadata Coordinator (MC)

Metadata coordinators (MCs), help and advise Book Coordinators, and take over the files with the completed recordings (soloists are also Book Coordinators in this sense, as they prepare their own files for the Meta coordinators). The files are then prepared and uploaded to the LibriVox catalogue, in a lengthy and cumbersome process.

• NEW – Users can now customise (create/delete/edit) color sets for chart points, sign glyphs, sign fill colors and aspects, and Huber aspect colors have been added as a pre-supplied option.
• NEW – The Dynamic Listing module now has a new Time Graph option, including new Enter/Leave events and Dates toggle buttons to allow quick switching between showing exact hits only versus also showing the entering and leaving orbs and dates.
• NEW – Added multi-chart window capability via Pinned Astro Sheets. Users can now pin any currently displayed wheel/grid/dial and any Astro Sheet with Pin button at top right of the views. These pinned views can be resized and moved, and are remembered across sessions, until you choose to close them. There is also a new Pinned Astro Sheets Manager which keeps lists of all recently pinned sheets and any you mark as favorites, and allows you to close them all with one click or re-open all your favorites with one click, or individually re-open any previously listed view. Each pinned astro sheet is interactive in the same was as normal chart/dial/grid and Astro Sheet views, you can double click to get interpretations, use rh mouse click to bring up chart/sheet options etc. This makes it possible to have multiple pinned sheets for the same chart/s with differing options such as displayed points, selected modulus, orbs, star sets etc.
• NEW – Added new standalone Event Search feature – accessible via a new toolbar icon
• NEW – Users may now optionally select default displayed point sets for transits, progressions, directions as well as the existing overall default for natal and other charts. (New “Inners/Fast” and “Outers/Slow” default points will be already present to be selectable for new installations – existing users can create their own.)
• NEW – Users may now apply custom displayed point selection to any selected chart, or chartwheel or grid in an Astro Sheet. The selection is available via popup menu from rh mouse click on a chart’s caption or inside a chartwheel ring, or on a grid’s caption, in addition to via the Select… menu for any selected chart.
• NEW – Wherever user needs to enter chart location details there is now a popup menu allowing selection of a recently used place or a saved favorite place, making it quick and easy to re-select previously used locations rather than having to re-enter details manually or search the atlas again.
• NEW – Added “Wheel & Grid” sheet – also improved grid appearance – finer lines.
• NEW – Added Lunar Mansions sheet.
